Biography

The Go! Team. Lodged somewhere in the previously undiscovered zone where Sonic Youth meets The Jackson 5, The Go! Team's debut album on indie label Memphis Industries Thunder, Lightning, Strike kicked out the jams and then spread it on crumpets for tea. The Go! Team is a 50/50 boy multinational girl boy split: band leader Ian Parton on electric guitar fucked up, harmonica and drums, Sam Dook on electric guitar, banjo and drums, Chi Fukami Taylor on drums, Kaori on electric guitar, keys and melodica and Jamie Bell on bass, and dynamite mcing from pocket rocket Ninja. That's right, there's four drummers - eat your heart out Adam and the Ants. On record The Go! Team are the Uncle Bulgaria's of pop music, making good use of things everyday folk leave behind. Throwing together electro, 70's cop show theme music, Bollywood soundtracks, cheerleading chants, old hip hop and noise guitar bands with a wide-eyed sense of possibility where everything crashes into everything else with a breathless, delighted, abandon. The Go! Team seem to be suffering from a collective brain-wrong that is gloriously, euphorically right. In less than a year The Go! Team have gone from first on at The Barfly to headlining the John Peel Stage at this years Glastonbury and performing on Later with Jools Holland. Following their round the block BBC/BPI and VICE shows at SXSW Rolling Stone described them as 'the buzz band of SXSW' and Billboard said they were 'one of the hottest bands at SXSW'.lead singer/rapper Ninja is a star who worked the crowd like a seasoned pro'. So it's not just England that's taking The G!T to it's heart. From Williamsburg hipsters to Japanese teenagers demand for Thunder Lightning Strike has seen them play to sold out audiences of 1,200 on their first visit to New York, to 3,000 at Spain's Primavera Festival, to a sold out tour of Sweden. They are booked into play international festivals including Fuji Rock, Roskilde, Eurokeenes as well as touring the US again in July and October of this year (and that's without any US label representing their interests as yet). And it's live that this gleefully uplifting music begins to take full effect, the music crashes triumphantly along, blaring, distorted samples, noisy guitars, Ninja's gleeful rapping, dancing, yelling and hugging each other. Imagine the most exhilarating block party you've ever been to and then multiply the fun quotient by 100. The audience do everything they can to express their approval save forming human pyramids. They are right: it's hard to think of anything in 2005 that's more exuberant, more joyous, more goddam fun than The Go! Team. Contact Matt or Dean or Ollie at Memphis Industries '
