Careening toward their tenth anniversary, Austin's magnificently indefinable Asylum Street Spankers refuse to slow their prolific pace. At a career point where most acts would cash in with a best-of compilation and greatest hits tour, the Spankers instead are simultaneously releasing two challenging projects - a new live-to-tape album and a concert film on DVD. Mercurial, the new album - their sixth full-length, is the fusion of two ideas, one that had been considered by bandleaders Christina Marrs and Wammo for several years. From early in Spankers history, the band played tunes that were audience favorites but never seemed right for any album.
